La Palma: Great tamales & fresh tortillas

La Palma
2884 24th Street
San Francisco, CA 94110
415-647-1500

Grubgirl found this place on Yelp because she had to prep for an impromptu Mexican-food themed get-together. Tamales had been purchased on 24th Street before, but the exact store name was forgotten. Since this task had been assigned to her partner in crime, TBJ, we figured Yelp may provide a good referral.

Burrito Grubber

Think you know a thing or two about San Francisco’s best taquerias? Can you meticulously describe the many subtle differences between a So-Cal burrito, a Nor-Cal burrito, and a Gring-uritto from your local El Torito or Chevy’s?

See if your choices have the right Moustache Rating. A nice find…check it out.

(Note that BurritoEater rates burritos on a 12-item scale…Grubgirl is not that picky as long as the price is right. Her stomach would rather prefer she instituted a similar scale however.)

Regular Burrito - $4.00 - Meat, rice, beans, salsa — just right!

Special Burrito - $4.50 - Meat, rice, beans, salsa, cheese & guac

Rice & Beans Burrito - $3.00

Breakfast Burrito - $2.75 (meat, salsa, cheese, egg, potato) — filling!

Hole in the wall near the Montgomery St. station…not outstandingly delicious but good price for filling me up.

Los Primos Cantina: Grub Near Ritziness

Los Primos Cantina
488 E. 17th Street A-106
(at Irvine Ave. & 17th St.)
Huntington Beach, CA
949-650-1486

In a strip mall lies this non-descript “order at the counter” restaurant. But for $4.49 their Burrito Especial is huge, and their $2.49 Tacos are also a hit.

Chips & salsa are free - just pile on as many chips as you can when you’re ordering at the line.

This place happens to be near a fancy private elementary school in a nearby residential neighborhood (The Pegasus School)…but the location here is definitely down home, and so are the diners.
