Yank Sing vs. City View Restaurant - Mastering the Business…

Yank Sing
Rincon Center
San Francisco

City View Restaurant
Commercial Street
San Francisco

You know of Yank Sing if you work in downtown SF. Snappy decor, fresh ingredients in their dim sum. But hold on a second. If you love your dim sum, and you’re not getting your dim sum meal comp’d, you can go somewhere else to get just-as-good dining.

Grubgirl spotted the unbelievable prices at this hole in the wall as she was waiting for some co-workers to eat Dim Sum at City View restaurant (aka the cheaper-but-just-as-good version of Yank Sing).

What caught her eye? First, the white board that listed daily lunch specials for $4.95. Peering inside, the place was crowded Friday at noon. Not packed to the gills, but all tables were filled with an ethnic variety of faces that suggested that this place was legit.

Ichiban Teriyaki - Good Value for a Downtown Japanese Lunch

Ichiban Teriyaki
5 Stevenson Street (off First, near Market)

M-F 10:30am - 3:30pm

Come to this nondescript-but-busy space on a side street off First St., and you’ll get big portions of fresh protein for your lunch.

I’ve eaten their Chicken Teriyaki plate ($5.48) which includes 1.5 grilled chicken breasts (I counted) on top of a bed of rice, with some tempura vegetables and your choice of a tiny green salad or steamed vegetables. Bascially it’s your usual square white styrofoam container, with one big entree area, and 2 smaller side order areas.
