La Palma: Great tamales & fresh tortillas

La Palma
2884 24th Street
San Francisco, CA 94110
415-647-1500

Grubgirl found this place on Yelp because she had to prep for an impromptu Mexican-food themed get-together. Tamales had been purchased on 24th Street before, but the exact store name was forgotten. Since this task had been assigned to her partner in crime, TBJ, we figured Yelp may provide a good referral.

Hawaiian Drive In: #28’s the Original…in the Mission

Hawaiian Drive In, #28
4827 Mission St.
San Francisco, CA
415-586-9382
M-Sun 10:30 am - 9:00 pm

If you’ve a hankering for some rice, macaroni salad, and a fried or grilled entree, then head to the Mission outskirts to hit this place. On a sunny day maybe you can imagine you’re on the big island…if you try really really hard.

Seafood Combo - $6.50
I was able to substitute chicken katsu in stack of teri steak/chicken/short ribs.
The seafood part is 1 deep fried breaded mahi mahi, and 3-4 breaded butterfly shrimp. Not bad, especially with the dipping sauce & rooster hot sauce. However, for the price, I was hoping for more shrimp. As a consolation, there was a helluva lotta chicken katsu…seemed about 2 breasts worth.

No Name Sushi - Prices Raised?

Here’s my first attempt at a restaurant “heads up”. Note to self: remember the address and write about it right after eating there, or jot some notes down…

A friend and I went to No Name Sushi in the Mission (close to the Castro/Church) to grab dinner…I had never been before. This was a small-to-medium sized unpretentious room with some old vinyl chairs and plain tables. Note: I just tried looking up this place on Citysearch, under “No Name Sushi” and couldn’t find it by that name. Is that irony? Or just cluelessness. Hmm.
