Homemade Bread: Bake Your Own

The Simple Dollar posts an article on how to bake bread at home, on the cheap. Grubgirl has searched before for such recipes, but this one stands out with its wonderful photos. (I won’t go into details about how I was adding tablespoons of yeast instead of teaspoons, during a bad bread baking phase I had…)

C’mon, Baker Mike, you must have an opinion on the reported method? Grubbers await your commentary… :)

Cooking from a Black Perspective - The Honeydijonay Blog

Thanks to honeydijonay commenting on my Hard Knox Cafe review, I’ve spent some time looking at her blog. It’s pretty funny. What’s it about? This Toronto native writes,

Not to offend the bougie gourmands who are also of the Black persuasion but in my experience Black people have a different mind set about food. What is and isn’t normally eaten would make most foodies roll their eyes at our ignorance. Some things are simple we like pork and most pork products. We do not and are not in the habit of eating meat or fish raw or ‘tartar’. We are wary of sushi. We love butter and lard and deep fried anything.

Quick and Easy Steamed Salmon Recipe

You can have a nice salmon dinner without having to spend a fortune if you decide to make it at home. One option is to steam it using a microwave. Here’s a rough guide on how to make a quick dinner…

1 microwave safe dish - I used a mini tart dish
saran wrap
1 salmon filet (per person)
1.5 - 2 Tbs. olive oil
dash of salt
dash of lemon pepper

Mint Brownies and a Baking Blog

While attending Word Camp last weekend, I met up with a few other bloggers. One seemed to have an interest in food, too, and lo and behold my amazement when I went to Infinite Flour and saw some wonderful photos of cookies and cakes, yum!

I especially like Baker Mike’s photo of his Mint Brownies that he reverse-engineered from some candy stripers. I’m going to have to borrow that recipe for St. Patrick’s Day!
