Fillmore Farmer’s Market: Get a bargain on organic veggies

Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market

O’Farrell @ Fillmore (Western Addition)

Near the (Un)Safeway in Western Addition, there’s a low-key farmers’ market every Saturday in the spring & summer.

It’s small, only 1/2 a block long, but you can buy enough for a weekly salad, and some healthy snacks. I haven’t been to the Marina Farmers’ Market, but the prices here for organic veggies are definitely lower priced than what you find at the Ferry Plaza.

Here’s a list of the things I recall there:

- 1 fresh bread stand

- 1 Indian food stand with the usual vendor hawking samples
- a strawberry vendor ($2-3/basket)
- a blueberry vendor

- 2-3 fruit vendors (peaches, nectarines, and plums were available)

- 4-5 assorted veggie vendors (including mixed loose-leaf salad, rainbow chard, red- & green-leaf lettuce, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, squash, and Asian veggie vendors, onions, potatoes)

I purchased 1 small fresh red onion ($0.25/piece), a head of lettuce ($1.50/each), tomatoes ($1/lb). Mind you, the lettuce & tomatoes may not all be dent-free, however everything is still fresh & tasty.
Depending on what your fruit & veggie staples are, you should definitely check it out!
