San Wang - Chinese Korean Food for Cheap

San Wang
1682 Post Street
(between Buchanan St & Laguna St)
(415) 921-1453

I found this place looking for some non-Japanese food options near me and my buddy Sarah (who happens to live near Japantown). She was debuting (finally!) her new sweetie so we had to find a Grubgirl-appropriate venue so he could get what I was all about. (And I could see if he bristled at vinyl chairs.)

San Wang is a Chinese restaurant run by Koreans, so there are some dishes with a decidedly Korean flare.

Henry’s Cafeteria: A Delicious and Cheap Lunch

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any truly grub findings. Why not? Sure, I’ve been a little busy, but really…they’re hard to find! (And even harder when some friends who claim to be grubgals and grubboys get the heebie jeebies when my eyes light up about true grub finds.) Well, this one is a hidden gem. And you have to love grub cooking to appreciate it.

Cooking Chinese Food: Ingredients for Recipes

What I hear most frequently from readers is that you guys want more San Francisco Bay Area restaurant recommendations and some easy recipes. (Though my friends are wonderful cooks, and I have seen many a varied set of methods they use to cut things, I won’t post a video about how to use a cooking knife as it may fall on deaf ears.) So then I resort to cooking in general. And why not Chinese cooking since many of the tasty dishes you can get in the restaurant can (supposedly) be reproduced in your kitchen, whether you’ve got a gas stove or All Electric Kitchen.

Myanmar and Burmese Food in San Francisco

Given the latest happenings in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), I figured I’d provide a brief lesson on the culture that has created the famous 12-ingredient Salad.

First, check out CNN’s FAQ on what’s going on in Myanmar, and why, this very moment.

Map of MyanmarNext, check out the map of the country (courtesy: Lonely Planet). Ah, this is why Burmese cuisine is described as being “influenced” by Chinese, Indian, and Thai cuisine. Look at the border countries, people!

Finally, go sample some Burmese grub food at 2 of 3 tasty restaurants:
Golden Mandalay
Yamo
I won’t mention the third “Super Star” restaurant as it gets enough publicity on

its own, thank you.
