Cafe Colma: Have Some Filipino Food With Your Casino

Cafe Colma (inside the Lucky Chances Casino)
1700 Hillside Blvd
Colma, CA 94014 // (650) 758-2237

With a huge new cemetery under construction across the street, and hidden inside a casino in South San Francisco, Cafe Colma is quite an uplifting experience. Okay, I was being sarcastic, but my friend and I decided to check this out for lunch one Saturday. Why? Because I’d never been to a Filipino restaurant before, and I’d heard from some Meetup folks that this was a dive worth exploring. Plus how often can you claim to have eaten in a casino…minutes from San Francisco?

Eddie’s Cafe - Not-So-Greasy Spoon

Grubgirl had a hankering for some biscuits in sausage gravy. Along with her hungover friend HH, we descended upon this site, across from that bar, Fly. Decent, diverse crowd of folks in a traditional diner. We were about to be seated when we decided to check out Blue Jay’s Cafe up the street.

Average cost of items on BJC’s menu was $2-3 more than at Eddies. We headed back to Eddie’s.

Crystal Cove Shake Shack: Milkshakes in the OC

Crystal Cove Shake Shack
7703 E. Coasts Highway
Newport Beach, CA

Right off the freeway, near Crystal Cove State Park (a beautiful state beach) is a non-descript lunch spot that serves great shakes.

For $3.25 you can get 1 of several flavors…their famous flavor is supposedly Date, but I didn’t know that until later.

You can also blend up to 3 flavors, for $3.75… and you get one free powder addition: malt, or soy protein.

Check it out and drink it while watching the waves hit the sand below.
