The Six O’Clock Scramble - Quick and Easy Recipes for Busy People

I’ve been using recipes from Aviva Goldfarb’s The Six O’Clock Scramble: Quick, Healthy, and Delicious Dinner Recipes for Busy Families for a while now, and it’s a must have even for you busy-but-frugal yuppies that don’t have a lot of time but are getting sick of that “take out” taste of food you don’t make yourself.

Unlike usual recipe books, this one organizes meals in the form of weekly menus, grouped by season, that then translate into your shopping list for the week. (If you follow an entire week’s shopping list, she has them on her Six O’Clock Scramble web site, too.)

LimeTree: Southeast Asian Cuisine

LimeTree
450A Irving Street
(between 5th and 6th Ave.)
415-665-1415

If you work or live near UCSF, you probably already know about this place. Me, I heard about this from a friend and ventured over to taste what I thought was going to be a Thai restaurant. Turns out this is more than just Thai food - LimeTree serves a combination of Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian, and Singaporan (?) and Filipino dishes at decent prices.

Sushi Zone: Great Value off Market

Sushi Zone
1815 Market St
San Francisco, CA 94103
(415) 621-1114
Cash only

Tucked away in an alley that actually is off Market Street (wow, in-car navigation systems really DO work!), I convinced my buddy, The Jeremy Piven Doppelganger (TJPD), to stand in line because the wait was supposedly worth it. The kicka** parking spot we nabbed on the side street also helped us with our overall experience.

Dive Eating in San Francisco: Meetup SF Dives

If you’re the oddball grub representative among your group of friends, there’s a cool Meetup group that has regular outings to dives. (Meetup is a place where people with common interests can find others in the same locale and, shocker, meet up!)

It’s called the SF Dives group (make sure you read the About Us fine print!), and there’s a very active contingent. Grubgirl herself (that’s me) is a bit anxious about getting dropped from this list due to conflicts that have occurred on Wednesday nights but hopefully the organizer is a forgiving type.
