Lifehacker pointed out a New York Times book review of some of the worst foods to eat in America. I was a little worried that one of my ice cream favorites would be on the list, but the summary actually pointed out a more surprising winner:
Worst Fast Food Meal: McDonald’s Chicken Selects Premium Breast Strips with creamy ranch sauce. Chicken sounds healthy, but not at 870 calories.
As a person who loves her fried meat or potatoes with a side of ranch or mayonnaise, this was an eye opener.
For you frequent business travelers, take note of this guilty pleasure:

I’ve eaten bad meat. That I made bad, apparently. I eagerly accepted the nieces’ leftover Wahoo Fish Taco beef teriyaki bowl. Purchased on New Year’s Eve (12/31). I left it in my refrigerator in its original take-out styrofoam container. Using the FIFO (first-in, first-out) inventory method of consumption, I just got to snacking on it for dinner Saturday (1/05). Hm, six days, no problem!! There was no odd smell, so that smell didn’t turn up anything fishy (har har).
*Urgh* But something is slightly amiss. I ignored that “not so fresh” feeling and ate some more for an after-dinner snack. *Blurgh*.

Ok, so most of the survey respondents said they want to read more restaurant reviews and easy home recipes. So I guess that means most of you think you know your cooking tips, eh? Well here’s one for the small set of you that care about what cooking or frying oil you use.
A med student has a blog called Diethack and has some suggestions on how to cook oil the healthy way, and discusses the different types of oil you can buy.
The first part of the article gives you the basic cautions about over-indulgence in cooking oil. Yeah yeah, let’s get to the good stuff.
