Restaurant Cassis
2101 Sutter Street (at Steiner)
415-440-4500
Woohoo! Cassis has extended their Prix Fixe Early Bird hours this summer, so from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm Sunday through Thursday (they’re closed Mondays), you can enjoy their French cuisine for $25 per person. It usually ends at 6:30 pm.
True, this is a big jump from the usual Grubgirl price range, however the value of what Cassis offers makes this a true bargain find.
Let’s dive right into the pros and cons:

Brenda’s French Soul Food
652 Polk St. (@ Eddy)
Closed Sundays
Beignets, grits, grillades…what is all that? Knowing a few share of southerners and one New Orleans native, I decided to take TBJ to check out what all the fuss was about with Brenda’s. I needed someone along who could do an authenticity check on this grub. What intrigued me about Brenda’s was that they say no entree is more than $10 there. Better not be for breakfast, ok??

Why?

I finally got a chance to attend the wonderful SF Dives Meetup gang that recently held an event at this Thai restaurant in the Tenderloin. Dragging Ms. Stein with me since I had no idea what to expect, we cautiously drove past the Mitchell Brother’s theater and tiptoed into this place.
