La Corneta Taqueria
2834 Diamond Street
(between Kern St & Wilder St)
“Where the he– is Glen Park?” Sarah asked. “I dunno,” I shrugged. “Somewhere with lots of families, I think.” Everyone who lives near Glen Park of San Francisco knows this place but we sure didn’t…it’s way out there in the outskirts of SF. You know, off Monterey Avenue…where people that work in high tech in San Jose try to live so they hop onto 280 in minutes.

Papalote Mexican Grill
1777 Fulton Street @ Masonic
San Francisco
415-776-0106
Papalote’s known for its fresh and healthy Mexican food. The original one (that I know of) is on 24th & Valencia. (Thanks to the resident ABM who took me there). Though that time I got a Mole Taco and felt it didn’t taste that authentic compared to the fare in Southern California, this time I ordered a basic Pollo Burrito with black beans and a spinach tortilla for $5.45.

Guerrero’s Taqueria
164 Reina Del Mar Ave
Pacifica, CA 94044
(650) 355-2833
Read the reviews on Yelp for more details on this locals-only Mexican restaurant in Pacifica. It’s a serve-yourself affair.
Grubgirl wanted to point out that the soft tacos qualify for cheap eats, since you can get one for $1.90 and it was pretty tasty. I got one with carne asada on it. Most tacos sold from trucks range in the $1.00 - $1.50 range, so for a helping surrounded by four walls, I was impressed by the price for the quantity of meat, white onion, and cilantro on top.

Cocina Poblana
1109 Fillmore Street
(between Golden Gate Ave & Turk Blvd)
San Francisco, CA 94115

I could talk about how this little gem is nestled in a small strip of stores on Fillmore St. in Western Addition, across from the McDonald’s that about 10 years ago was reputed to have a bullet-proof order counter for the staff. Add in some words about re-re-gentrification; high rise apartments and a new condo being built around PJs (er, low-income housing). But I won’t dwell on that too much longer. Let’s talk about the food:
