MenuPix vs. allmenus: San Francisco Restaurant Menus Online
I’ve come across two similar sites in the past few weeks that attempt to provide visitors with restaurant menu information for many urban areas.
allmenus debuted in late July. They’ve only really been live for a week, so here are the quick pros & cons:
Pros:
- The website has a modern look & feel
- Someone spent a lot of time typing in the menus! Menu line items are typed out (with explanations, sometimes). This helps keep the overall interface clean.
Cons:

Mint Brownies and a Baking Blog
While attending Word Camp last weekend, I met up with a few other bloggers. One seemed to have an interest in food, too, and lo and behold my amazement when I went to Infinite Flour and saw some wonderful photos of cookies and cakes, yum!
I especially like Baker Mike’s photo of his Mint Brownies that he reverse-engineered from some candy stripers. I’m going to have to borrow that recipe for St. Patrick’s Day!
Memphis Minnie’s in San Francisco – The Best BBQ
Memphis Minnie’s BBQ Joint and Smokehouse
576 Haight Street
San Francisco, CA
415-864-PORK
I tasted a bunch of Memphis Minnie’s barbecue at a tech conference this past weekend. I have no idea who Memphis Minnie is,and their website doesn’t say, but I’ve found my favorite barbeque joint in San Francisco, finally. Even better, it was (practically) free. Here’s what I ate:
- Texas Beef Brisket
- Smoked Chicken (drumstick)
- Potato Salad
- Collard Greens
- Macaroni & Cheese
- Corn Muffin

Food at WordCamp 2007

I just got back from my first WordCamp users conference. This is the blogging system that I (and millions of others, apparently) use and I wanted to learn more about best practices on how to give my readers the content they want. (More on that later.) But I have to share what sold it for me. The value of the MEALS. For a mere $25 registration fee, this is what I got:
- 15 presentations across 2 days
- 2 breakfasts (lots of fresh pastries, good coffee, Peet’s tea!)
- Unlimited amounts of bottled water (Ok, volunteers, I hope you didn’t throw away any of those leftovers)
