Cooking from a Black Perspective – The Honeydijonay Blog

Thanks to honeydijonay commenting on my Hard Knox Cafe review, I’ve spent some time looking at her blog. It’s pretty funny. What’s it about? This Toronto native writes,

Not to offend the bougie gourmands who are also of the Black persuasion but in my experience Black people have a different mind set about food. What is and isn’t normally eaten would make most foodies roll their eyes at our ignorance. Some things are simple we like pork and most pork products. We do not and are not in the habit of eating meat or fish raw or ‘tartar’. We are wary of sushi. We love butter and lard and deep fried anything.

Tips on How to Store Your Food

Thanks go to Gomestic and their article on How to Store Your Food So It Lasts Longer.

Dive Eating in San Francisco: Meetup SF Dives

If you’re the oddball grub representative among your group of friends, there’s a cool Meetup group that has regular outings to dives. (Meetup is a place where people with common interests can find others in the same locale and, shocker, meet up!)

It’s called the SF Dives group (make sure you read the About Us fine print!), and there’s a very active contingent. Grubgirl herself (that’s me) is a bit anxious about getting dropped from this list due to conflicts that have occurred on Wednesday nights but hopefully the organizer is a forgiving type.

Tips to Cut Your Grocery Bill

Kudos to Sharon Harvey Rosenberg, aka The Frugal Duchess, for listing out 11 Tips for Cutting Grocery Bills from Consumers Union.

The one that caught me?

Be wary of circulars: Featured products in circulars often see a spike of up to 500 percent in sales volume. So stores like to highlight lots of items in their weekly circulars. The catch, says Shop Smart: “Not all items in circulars are on sale [at a discount].”

Gasp!
