Cafe Colma: Have Some Filipino Food With Your Casino

Cafe Colma (inside the Lucky Chances Casino)
1700 Hillside Blvd
Colma, CA 94014 // (650) 758-2237

With a huge new cemetery under construction across the street, and hidden inside a casino in South San Francisco, Cafe Colma is quite an uplifting experience. Okay, I was being sarcastic, but my friend and I decided to check this out for lunch one Saturday. Why? Because I’d never been to a Filipino restaurant before, and I’d heard from some Meetup folks that this was a dive worth exploring. Plus how often can you claim to have eaten in a casino…minutes from San Francisco?

Brunch at Primo Patio Cafe

Primo Patio Cafe
214 Townsend St
(at Colin P Kelly Jr St)
(415) 957-1129
Closed Sundays

If you’ve got a hankering for a combination savory ‘n sweet brunch, Caribbean food will hit the spot. Humbly situated next to the “Marina in South Beach” wine bar known as District, Primo Patio serves its food on a covered back patio with decorated walls that are supposed to make you think you’re in Jamaica somewhere, as opposed to some urban jungle in San Francisco. We were the first ones there Saturday morning and the heat lamps were still firing up, but by noon, the place was packed. Luckily I had my puffy vest or I would’ve had to swap seats with Stein-er.

Healthy and Quick Recipes from CookingLight

Bookmark this CookingLight page now. They call it the Superfast list – healthy, easy, and fast recipes. I have yet to try them but I took a look at a few and they look easy enough for an amateur like me with an all-electric kitchen (AEK).

My real goal is to find recipes that are able to take its list of ingredients and not have any leftovers of them. Ok, that sounds a bit awkward. I realize that most recipes I make will have leftovers. I eat more than one serving, and recipes are for 4-6 servings, on average.

Keeping an Efficient Kitchen

Consider yourself organized, or aspire to be? Lifehacker provides some creative tips on how to make your cooking simpler with “Kitchen Timesavers That Speed Up Dinner.” The best idea for me? Stick a conversion chart on the inside of one of your cupboards.

I have some cookbooks from my travels – and gee – why does everyone else cook with a metric system except for the US?! I’ve realized that I procrastinate from cooking wonderful (and easy) dishes from Spain and Cuba because I can’t be bothered with searching another book for the conversions!
