Cilantro Pesto Sauce Recipe

I bought some cilantro for use with Chinese cooking. (Cilantro comes from the Coriander plant. The same plant is thus sometimes called coriander, or Chinese parsley.)Cilantro (aka coriander) Plant

The herb is very strong, so I had about 80% of the bunch left and didn’t know how else to use it. Gina suggested that I make a pesto sauce with it. “But wait, isn’t pesto made with basil? And I don’t have any pine nuts in the house,” I thought to myself.

However, I found an easy Fabulous Cilantro Pesto recipe on Allrecipes.com. It required cilantro, and walnuts or pecans. Leftovers from countless pecan pie bakeoffs gave me the pecan supply.

Checking out this Chronicle-mentioned Bargain Bites location, I feared being met by a surly counterperson (think, Sausage Nazi). Boy was I wrong! I proclaimed myself a newbie and the guy at the counter (a combo cashier, cook, and busboy) was extremely friendly and helpful.

He suggested I start off with the Beer Sausage, made of spicy pork and beef. Ultimate frequenters of the joint, he said, consume the Wild Boar (made of apple & spice). I chose the Beer Sausage and then, he even set my expectations by saying it’d take five minutes to grill.

Costco: How to Buy Cheap Booze Without a Membership

For those of you of legal drinking age that are looking for ways to save some money on your next alcohol and liquor purchases, consider buying liquor at your local Costco. Cocktail Party

Fox News’ SmartMoney.com reported that little-known legislation in several states requires that warehouse-type retail outlets sell alcohol to non-members without requiring any additional fees:

These laws date back to the 1930s, when Prohibition was repealed. Massachusetts’ law, for example, provides that applicants for a license to sell alcohol must “serve the public need and protect the common good.” In simpler terms, alcohol sold must be available for purchase by the greater public — no membership restrictions.

T-28 Bakery & Cafe: Dirt Cheap Midnight Snacks

T-28 Bakery & Cafe
1757 Taraval Street
at 28th Avenue
San Francisco, CA 94101

I went there with EC after playing some volleyball Friday night. It was billowing fog again…not your typical summer evening, unless you’re in San Francisco.

This place is way out in the Outer Sunset, serves a mainly Asian-American crowd, and serves Hong Kong-ish style or Malaysian-type Chinese food. That is, there are elements of a Western twist on the menu, like the Fried Spam Macaroni, or the Fried Ham and Cheese Roll.
