Secret Menus at Restaurants

You might have heard of the secret menu at In-n-Out, but did you know that many other fast food chains also have secret menu items to order?

The folks over at Coupon Sherpa have compiled a comprehensive overview of 24 secret restaurant menus, often with photos, so you, too, can order off-menu the next time you’re at any of these places.

Some of my favorites?

  • Chipotle’s Quesorito – A quesadilla with any of the fillings used in a burrito, rolled together and baked in the tortilla warmer. This is a crispier version of a quesadilla.

Sociale in Presidio Heights: FreshGuide’s Hot Deal!

freshguideThis is another last-minute deal that I just got in my inbox from FreshGuide, a site that sends out short-term deal emails for a variety of businesses in local markets. They’ll sometimes offer restaurant deals, and here’s a great one to try out the food at Sociale, the Italian restaurant in Presidio Heights. FreshGuide is offering $50 worth of food and drinks at Sociale, for just $25. And this deal is live for only a few days.

Local Produce For Trade / Barter: The Farmer’s Garden

Aptly named Maureen Farmer, a master gardener and techie, built a site “where people can post free classifieds to sell, trade or give away their surplus backyard garden produce.” The Farmer’s Garden is the spot and it just needs more folks in the Bay Area to sign up (either as a provider or a consumer). I’ve done my part; registration is free and I’m trying to convince some friends with urban chickens to offer their eggs or Meyer lemons for donation.

CurryUpNow – Mobile Indian Street Food

CurryUpNow Indian Street FoodWho: Curry Up Now, a mobile lunch and dinner truck (I’ve nicknamed it Curry Cart for short) serving hungry customers in San Mateo, Burlingame, and Redwood Shores.

What: They serve local and organic meals (in compostable containers), that are a mashup of Indian street food and Mexican taco truck fare. That means you get legit Indian dishes often wrapped up in corn or flour tortillas for a lunchtime fix, or a traditional boxed lunch with a side or rice, veggies, and the entree. Lunch and dinner options are available, though I think they are open either one meal or the other (not a lunch and dinner on the same day).
