Gloria’s Burritos: Grubbin’ in the 408
Gloria’s Burritos
1142 Saratoga Ave.
San Jose, CA 95129
408-984-6086
On my way down to the ‘burbs (on a Saturday, there’s hardly any traffic in the middle of the day), I swung by a strip mall to check out some legit Mexican food. Until I walked in, it was only Spanish spoken here.
I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito (a la carte) for $4.50. I was gonna get it to go but then I saw their yummy salsas on the table. I wanted to try those out, too, but if you’re getting takeout, the chips ‘n salsa are $2 extra.

Finger Food at Wendy’s
You think it’s an urban legend.
You’ve heard similar stories before — the rat burger at Jack in the Box, the horsemeat (again, at Jack in the Box), the deep fried rat in the french fry deep fryer at McDonald’s.
But apparently this one is REAL.
A 20-year old woman bit into a FINGER at a Wendy’s in San Jose.
No kidding.
Now, this is unconfirmed but my friend told me that one report claimed she told the Wendy’s employees about it. They nonchalantly said that it “was a vegetable.” Uh huh.

Delicious & Easy Pecan Pie Recipe
Mmmm Mmmmm Good!!!! Who knew that pecan pie was so darn easy to make!!
Thanks again to AllRecipes for this awesome Southern Pecan Pie recipe.
All ingredients are readily available at Safeway.
I used a 9-inch deep dish frozen crust (Safeway select brand),
Karo’s dark syrup (1 jar is more than enough),
and 3 small bags of Planters Pecan Parts (not halves)
Be careful when moving the pie from the counter to the oven — you need to hold it very steady so the liquid doesn’t slosh around, and the pie tin doesn’t bend.

Legendary Palace: Oakland Dim Sum
Legendary Palace
708 Franklin St.
Oakland

I kept hearing about having to go to Oakland to get true Northern dim sum, or to hit true Northern (Shanghai) Chinese restaurants. What’s the difference between regular (Cantonese/Southern) dim sum and that from the north?
All I can say is that Northern dim sum does other stuff than the small plates wheeled around on carts. You’ll see more bread & starch products. Mainly, soybean milk in sweet or salty format. It’s served in big bowls – larger than cereal bowls, smaller than…hmmm…. a large pasta serving bowl.
