On my way down to the ‘burbs (on a Saturday, there’s hardly any traffic in the middle of the day), I swung by a strip mall to check out some legit Mexican food. Until I walked in, it was only Spanish spoken here.
I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito (a la carte) for $4.50. I was gonna get it to go but then I saw their yummy salsas on the table. I wanted to try those out, too, but if you’re getting takeout, the chips ‘n salsa are $2 extra.
So I sat down and sampled. The chips were fine – regular mass purchased, not home made. (Actually no one hardly ever makes home-made chips but…you can get ones that taste like that — a bit more fried). There were two dips – -one fiery red puree — and that was tasty. Then another serving of fresh salsa – diced tomatoes, peppers, onions. Both got thumbs up.
Then I got my burrito – I thought it’d be smaller but this was a fair size. Larger than a frozen burrito, but the girth is not as big as a “burrito supreme.” Stuffed with avocado slices, pinto beans, meat, and yay! no rice. That, and it was freshly cooked HOT. My total was less than $5 including tax and the chips & salsa. Next time I’m down there I gotta hit it again.
The other lunch & dinner plates ran a bit pricier — $7-13.50 depending on if you go a tostada plate or shrimp fajitas.
They also serve beer and alcohol (margaritas & sangria) so…why not give it a try?
