El Nopalito: Chips & Salsa in San Diego
El Nopalito Restaurant
582 Santa Fe Drive
Encinitas, CA 92024
760-436-9206
In a dingy strip mall in this neighborhood lies this restaurant. How do we know of it? Because in the OC, we get their bags of yummy tostada chips & roasted tomato salsa. We had to make a trip down to check out how the rest of the food was.
The chips are made fresh onsite at the strip mall - thick, crispy, and not oily. Paired with their salsa, and you’ve got a habit-forming combo.
The mall actually has 2 of their establishments. There’s the restaurant — decent prices, order at the counter…I hear the taquitos are like having the chips with a little meat. Tacos are generously portioned for ~@2.25 each. The other place is their office/grocery store/manufacuturing plant, all in one. They offer catering (ie large portions) at a reasonable price. Behind the butcher counter, a machine churned out fresh tortillas…
They also make a guacamole (traditional style - a little runnier than the traditional thick American style), and some other salsas we didn’t get to taste.
If you don’t make it to the restaurant, at least pick up a bag of their chips and salsa!
