Jack in the Box – Free Fries on Tuesday

Head out to your nearest Jack in the Box, bring this coupon, and get a free order of curly fries on Tuesday, February 10.

What’s this all about? Chalk it up to Crack in the Box’s ad agency and drumming up awareness about their Hang In There Jack ad campaign: it’s got its own fake sympathy site along with videos and get well wishes for that Jack CEO in the commercials. (I guess he got hit by a bus, how morbid!)

Review: Cooking Videos at FoodTube

I came across FoodTube.net as a source of how-to cook videos. This has inspired me to give a rundown in the next few posts on some other video sites with cooking categories.

In this instance, I’ve searched for a word (“steak”) which is easy to make at home, and that I had made before, so I could evaluate both the video and content quality.

Pros:

  • Comprehensiveness. I have a feeling that any recipe under the sun has a chance of showing up here. These look like videos hosted at YouTube that somehow are listed here. When I typed in “steak” I got a lot of answers and varieties. (This can be good and bad…more later)

San Francisco GrubClub – Thanks for Organizing!

GrubGirl graciously (and eagerly) accepted an invite to eat mingle with other food writers (those “in the biz”, as I say with a theatrical flourish of an imaginary scarf) in the area, at the Carnelian Room in downtown San Francisco.

Thanks to Kevin over at The City Dish, and Paolo at Eater SF, among others, for the inspiration. It was a pleasure meeting Patrick from San Francisco CitySearch, Tiffany at Examiner.com, Joan from Full Plate Restaurant Consulting, and Guillermo of Pisco Punch fame. This was a great opportunity to meet faces behind names, network, opine about another un-deserving restaurant closure, and see how up-to-speed others were with tech tools & concepts such as Twitter, SEO, and RSS feeds.

UEatCheap.com Review – Where to Eat for $10 or Less

I happened upon UEatCheap recently and decided to give their service a test drive. What do they do? You type in a city or ZIP code, and they’ll show you a map with color-coded pushpins on it, depicting various nearby dining establishments that provide meals for under $10.

Yes, for many, eating a meal under $10 is a bold claim and in these tough economic times (I love referencing that over-used phrase), there’s a lot of people not used to grub eating that may need some extra assistance. UEatCheap is for them. (Of course, those folks should diligently review GrubGirl’s archives, since eating a meal for under $10 is, well, a mainstay of everyday life.)
