Alamo Square Seafood Grill – Prix Fixe Special

SF City Dish reports that the neighborhood Western Addition restaurant has a great bargain, and when I saw the price, I had to nod my head.

Alamo Square Seafood Grill is serving up a $14.50 3-course meal (appetizer, chef’s choice of entree, and dessert) on weeknights until 7pm. That’s pretty impressive sounding. I’ll have to check it out and report back to you. (My main concern is that the entree is sizable enough…the menu is not specific on the entree.)

Panini Sandwich Recipes for Cheap

Over at the “everything you wanted to know about paninis but were afraid to ask” site, Panini Happy, is an informative article on how to eat paninis while on a budget. Actually there are two great articles for those of you with that champagne taste and beer budget:

1) 5 Money-Saving Tips offers some great advice on how to cut down your grocery bill by doing something as simple as buying your meat and cheese slices from the deli counter. Doubtful? Panini Happy’s investigative blogger has done the math already for you and shown that the pre-packed stuff is more expensive (because you’re paying for the packaging which is apparently worth the extra time you’ll save from not having to stand in line at the counter).

Pepsi & Snapple Drinks with Sugar, Not High Fructose Corn Syrup

QSR magazine reports that Snapple and Pepsi are debuting new drinks, and advertising that they’re made with old-fashioned sugar, as opposed to high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Because providing something natural (versus processed) should be a big deal? Odd.

Pepsi and Snapple's new drinks

Sweet drinks in the US are usually flavored with HFCS, because it’s cheaper to provide those calories than adding sugar. Whether or not they’re linked to the increasing chubbiness of people that consume fast food is a whole other debate that this blog won’t cover.
