Who:
Kingdom of Dumpling’s dumpling manufacturing site, where several ladies gather around a table making fresh handmade dumplings of all thicknesses and ingredients. Any local that decides to drive to Union Square for a quick shopping visit knows that the sutter Stockton Garage offers the best bang for buck.

This was how I happened by Sutter Cafe, tucked across from the elevators of the lower lobby area that directs pedestrians to Sutter Street (not the lobby staffed with humans).

2223 Market’s $12 Tuesdays

Who & Where:
What & When:
$12 Tuesdays (http://www.2223restaurant.com/12tuesday.html)
American dinner entrees with some Asian and Mediterranean inspirations, for $12, and starters for $6. No wonder reservations are highly recommended.
Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes until 9:30 p.m.
Why:
* Great value, especially since they use hormone- and antibiotic-free meats and seafood.
* Just-right portions. I had the Cornmeal Encrusted Cod Fish and had enough for a little snack the next day.
* Warm bread rolls. They were quite generous in refilling our basket with these.
* Lively atmosphere. A great place to meet up with friends for a quick bite and some catching up.
Heads Up:
* No air conditioning. Rarely a problem in San Francisco, but if you happen to be there on the one record-breaking high temp day of the year, be ready to fan yourself.
* Expect some variety. My cod fish entree was prepared differently than my friend’s cod fish entree. (I’d gotten there late and placed my order after she did.) She claims that her portion was smaller. My pieces were breaded, too, which was fine with me.

Sally’s After Dark, Flavor, and Underground Ramen

Word on the street is that Sally’s After Dark is re-locating and re-branding itself as Flavor, near the coast. If that’s the case, I’m going to have to make a special trip out there when they repeat their underground ramen hosting duties. The last one I went to in their old location was mighty tasty.
