Cortez
550 Geary Blvd (betw Taylor & Jones)
San Francisco, CA, 94102
(415) 292-6360
Yes, Citysearch has given this place the $$$$ rating, so Grubgirl was resigned to get the most value out of this place, as she went there to meet up with a couple friends. You know how I feel about the whole small plates concept — I think it is a big rip off to the consumer. On the other hand, it is a shrewd move by business people, because…people ARE willing to pay those prices…so if the demand is there, why not keep supplying?

Benito’s Taco Shop
Several locations in LA
1544 S. La Cienega Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90035
Open 24 hours, awkwardly-shaped parking lot, cash only.
I was visiting my buddy Matt down on So-cal and had a hankering for some legit Mexican food, close by his pad. The “close by” factor led us to Benito’s for lunch.
Although there was a huge “B” placard in the window, we ventured forth. (In case you don’t know about the restaurant ratings, click here).

Taco Mesa
Many locations in the OC.
647 W. 19th St.
Costa Mesa, CA 92627
(949) 642-0629
Where or where is the equivalent of this in San Francisco? I’ve heard rumors that certain taco trucks provide such delicious fare but none of my friends dare venture with me…and we all know it’s more fun to eat with friends.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know about Taco Mesa - so you don’t have to drive all the way down to Tijuana to get legit tacos. Instead, you just have to go to Orange County.
