Anh Hong: Vietnamese 7 Courses of Beef
Anh Hong
808 Geary Street
(at Hyde St)
San Francisco, CA 94109 (415) 885-5180
If you’re planning to go to Anh Hong to eat their Seven Courses of Beef (also known as Bo 7 Mon) dinner, here are some tips.
- Ordering the course for your group is not a 1-to-1 correlation. That is, if you have 7 guests, and they don’t all have bottomless pits for stomachs, you can place 5-6 _orders of_ the 7 Courses of Beef. I hope that makes sense. You will still be full.
- Go with a group. I’d recommend at least 5 people.

How to Unwrinkle a Cherry Tomato
I recently bought two bags of cherry tomatoes on the vine from Safeway. After a few days in the refridgerator (oops! more on that later), they started looking wrinkly. Since they didn’t look good for eating in salad anymore, I decided to cook a few of them in a chicken dish I was making.
After throwing in a handful of the cherry tomatoes into the saute pan, and stirring for a few minutes, I noticed that the cherry tomatoes were plumping up again. After cooking my meal, I served myself and noticed that the cherry tomatoes did not shrivel up again, despite having been removed from the heat. I tried a bite and they were still great.

Chavo’s Restaurant: Cheap Mexican Food and Huge Portions
Chavo’s Restaurant
595 Bryant & 4th Streets
San Francisco, CA 94107
415-495-5822
Situated South of Market near a busy freeway off-ramp, Chavo’s provides BIG portions of good Mexican food at a decent price. This is not rock bottom cheap, but for $6-8 you can get a huge cheap super burrito for lunch that stuffs even the heartiest male appetites. Another friend ordered her usual lunch plate of 2 verde (green) enchiladadas, with beans and rice. She had to take leftovers home, too, and she rarely does that. The food is fresh, the meat’s pretty good, and, oh, did I mention that the portions are huge??
Cocina Poblana: Great value for Mexican food
Cocina Poblana
1109 Fillmore Street
(between Golden Gate Ave & Turk Blvd)
San Francisco, CA 94115
(415) 447-8420
I could talk about how this little gem is nestled in a small strip of stores on Fillmore St. in Western Addition, across from the McDonald’s that about 10 years ago was reputed to have a bullet-proof order counter for the staff. Add in some words about re-re-gentrification; high rise apartments and a new condo being built around PJs (er, low-income housing). But I won’t dwell on that too much longer. Let’s talk about the food:
