Review: Osteria in Laurel Heights – Bargain Italian Food

Osteria
3277 Sacramento Street
(between Lyon St & Presidio Ave)
San Francisco, CA 94115
(415) 771-5030

After a trusted friend recommended this place as a great value, locals secret in Laurel Heights, I went to Osteria for some Italian food. My friend was right! I had always thought that, being on Sacramento Street, the bustling Italian restaurant was for higher-income budgets. Well, as another friend always says… rich people are rich ‘cuz deep down they like bargains, too. 😉

The Trick to Eating Spicy Food

If you’re a wimp at eating spicy food or anything with chilis, here’s a cure. Drink milk or alcohol with yourChile Peppers food. Men’s lifestyle blog, Kineda, goes into the scientific reason for why milk helps cure chili spiciness. Similar reasons make beer or wine a good option with the spicy food. (And personally, it sounds more appetizing…)

Asparagus stalks

If you like to cook asparagus in your oven (broiled or baked asparagus), or on the grill, sprinkle some nutmeg over the stalks for a slightly sweeter flavor.

Haroset After Passover?

I know this is odd, but I sometimes crave haroset and really wish some local San Francisco delis sold the Haroset stuff. Every once in a while after Passover, a co-worker may bring some homemade leftovers from home…but I don’t get enough exposure to the stuff. Maybe I should make a harder effort to be invited each year to a Passover Seder, to eat the food…but somehow I don’t think I should actually voice that as my goal. If any readers can recommend any San Francisco stores that sell pre-made, fresh haroset, let me know!
