Golden Mandalay: The Other Burmese Restaurant

(Golden) Mandalay Restaurant
4344 California St
(between 5th Ave & 6th Ave)
San Francisco, CA 94118 (415) 386-3896

I dined at the Golden Mandalay Restaurant (sometimes just called “Mandalay”) the other day to see how it compared to its more popular neighbor, Burma SuperStar. I could only find two Burmese restaurants listed in SF…anyone know why?

Editor’s Update: Thankfully there are now more Burmese food options in San Francisco, due in large part to the success of Burma Superstar. If you prefer a more quiet and faster option, read on…

Ponzu Happy Hour Alert

Ponzu
401 Taylor Street
(between Geary St & Ofarrell St)
San Francisco, CA 94102 (415) 775-9997

Ponzu, a hotel restaurant/bar in San Francisco’s theater district (Taylor / O’Farrell), just launched a new happy hour that takes place 7 days a week.

The deal that got my attention? $0.50 appetizers and $3 drinks. Raise an eyebrow? I sure did.

The $3 special was just for the debut — usual cocktail prices range from $3 – 5 for happy hour drinks that range from draft beer and house sake to fruity cocktails consisting of sake, soju, run, or plum wine.

No Name Sushi – Prices Raised?

Here’s my first attempt at a restaurant “heads up”. Note to self: remember the address and write about it right after eating there, or jot some notes down…

A friend and I went to No Name Sushi in the Mission (close to the Castro/Church) to grab dinner…I had never been before. This was a small-to-medium sized unpretentious room with some old vinyl chairs and plain tables. Note: I just tried looking up this place on Citysearch, under “No Name Sushi” and couldn’t find it by that name. Is that irony? Or just cluelessness. Hmm.
